Tolworth Summer Camp

Two of our younger elite girls, Lucy Orr and Laura Jane Core plus their coach Becky Campbell joined a similar group from Largs Gymnastics Club to take part in the Tolworth Summer Camp in the South of England.

This was a great opportunity for the girls to work beside some of the best young gymnasts in Britain. I'm told that the girls worked really hard and Becky has come back with some great ideas. Thank's to Tolworth Gymnastics Club in particular Rochelle Douglas, John Pirrie and the family who hosted our guys.

Trip for Aimee and Shannon to Russia

Aimee Bryce and Shannon Archer, two of West Lothian's top gymnasts, coached by Pauline Clar,k have been offered the amazing opportunity to train with Russian gymnasts at the Olympic Reserve School in Rostov-On-Don.

The two girls will travel to Russia as part of a joint venture between Glasgow School of Sport and Scottish Gymnastics for a 10 day training camp.   Both girls are really looking forward to the trip and having held a fundraising Disco last week would like to thank everyone who supported the event helping them to fund this great opportunity.

Good Luck girls and Work Hard!!

Pegasus Open 2010

What a fantastic time we had!!

Fantastic results and a Great Time for 12 West Lothian Girls, 3 coaches and a hard working Mum!!

Every single gymnast who joined us on our trip to the tropical south had a fantastic time. everyone competed to their best and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was lovely to see a few supporters make the journey down too.

All in all we brought home 3 Golds,1 Silver and 3 Bronze medals plus a 4th place. What Stars you all are girls and great fun to be with too!!

Very early Saturday morning a group of 15 travellers met at Livingston South station to travel by train down to the south of England by train. 15 became 16 when they met Ruth at Edinburgh Waverly. From there we travelled to Kings Cross then for some, the first time on London's underground to catch the Maidstone train from Victoria. - and well done us we didn't lose anyone!

Temperatures were in the high 20s but despite this we all went on a 2mile walk to the leisure centre had a quick peek at the boys comp and took a dip in the leisure pool. After that a 2 mile walk back to our hotel again, some dinner and bed before our long competition day on sunday.

Laura Jane was the earliest riser - up at 7.00am for an 8.15 registration. First up on Beam in the whole competition was a bit of a wobbly start for LJ but she coped well. After that she got going and placed a great 7th on Bars and 9th on vault. Next round was Nicole's turn - incredible that she was there considering it's only about 7 weeks since she broke and dislotated her shoulder!!! Well done Nicole for a fantastic recovery.

Having already done the shopping for lunch, thanks to Lisa Wilson, and walked the 2 miles, now in blazing sun, it was the turn of the seniors and 97/98 gymnasts. These were both brilliant competitions the girls were a joy to be with and we watched some lovely routines. Well done girls for a host of medals.

Jaclyn Duff - a fab pike Tsuk took the Bronze

Shannon Archer -  Bronze overall and another fine TSuk took silver followed by a lovely bar routine that earned a well deserved gold medal. Beam hmmm a bit wobbly but to finish a beautiful floor and another gold medal

Jade Mackinnon - Performed extremely well and was place 4th overall and added a Bronze medal on floor to her Challenge Cup floor title!

Aimee Bryce - Up on 3 pieces and perfomed a very steady and 'attractive' beam routine to take the gold medal.

Nieve Crayton and Shannon Mackenzie both had great competitions and we were all very proud of their performances.

To finish off the comp and getting pretty late by now and very, very hot were the 2001 gymnasts. Once again the group were a joy and focused well on their performances.

Star of the day must have been Katie Wilson who dispalyed a fantastic beam routine that gained her a well deserved Bronze medal. Katie must also be proud of a very credible 7th place on floor.

Dana Russell and Brone Clark also showed great competitive spirit with best place for Dana being 7th on Bars and for Brone 10th on Beam.

WELL DONE ONE AND ALL!!

Next day we took the long train journey home this time sampling the new high speed train from Ashford and passing Stratfford in London where building work was clearly well underway for the 2012 Olympics. Finally, all back at Livingston North by to be welcomed by Mums and Dads.

Well girls, I had a brilliant time I hope you did too!

Mens Club Championship 2010

Another fantastic event! - Once again we cannot thank you enough for all the help we received in getting this Championships on the road and keeping the whole competition running smoothly. It was really nice also to welcome friends from the Falkirk Boys Club who joined us to make this year's event even more special and a special thank you to Andrew Mackie for judging all evening for us.

All the boys rose to the occaision brilliantly and we saw some great performances from both the young and the more experienced boys. I am hoping once again that there will be photo's available very soon both on the Web and some prints to purchase.

Great work everyone and in particular to all the coaches for their work all year with the boys.  Here are the results for you to browse.

Club Championships 2010

What a brilliant day! Thank you to everyone who volunteered and gave  their time to support the Club in the first part of it's 4th Annual Championships (part 2 -our Boys Competition, Friday 18th June!). The whole event ran extremely smoothly and we even finished over an hour ahead of schedule!

It was lovely to watch every one of our gymnasts and a particular highlight to see our senior girls perform their routines (minus a few of their bigger skills due to the restrictions of our facility)

You may have noticed that Megan's dad, Steven Payne was busy taking photo's all day. Hopefully we will have some copies of his photo's available in a few days. Thanks Steven.

I'm sure that you are all interested in the results so click here. I was so proud of every single gymnast who took part and I'm really looking forward to watching your progress over the next 12 months!

Great work Everyone and Thank you All          Ruth

West Lothian visit the Isle of Man

One very windy Friday in December an excited group of gymnasts, their coaches and judges from West Lothian Artistic GC met at Edinburgh airport ready for a flight they knew had a reputation of pretty bumpy landings. Douglas, in the Isle of Man beckoned for a busy weekend for the team. This was the first time the club had taken away a team of male and female gymnasts and was an ideal opportunity to enjoy the excitement of a trip away combined with the edge of competition.

First to go were the girls on the Saturday morning. The under 11 team, Shannon Archer, Aimee Bryce, Nieve Crayton, Jade MacKinnon and Shannon McKenzie competed with style and flourish, although a couple of falls at beam meant that they needed to keep the quality up right to the end. The final results were well worth the hard work:

Saturday afternoon was the Women’s FIG competition. Jaclyn Duff and Hayley Park both competed extremely well in a very experienced field. Most of the competitors turned out to be seniors with one past Olympian! However despite this the girls concentrated on their own performances and can be proud of their results.

Next day, Sunday, the boys had a lot to live up to. The Under 14 team James Griffin, Grant Millar, Tristan Rabaeijs and Connor Rajek started off the morning in rather chilly conditions but ready to do their best. Once again the results were outstanding:

The final competition of the weekend was the Under 16 FIG competition. West Lothian was extremely proud of Paul Fowler who placed 1st on all apparatus and was also awarded the highest FIG score of the day including the Open competition.

In all, West Lothian had a fantastic weekend and could not believe the total of 48 medals that came home with the team! This was a great competition and West Lothian would like to thank the Isle of Man for their tremendous hospitality.

October 2008

SIMPLY THE BEST!
  • Amazing results at Mens 2 piece competition - Bellahouston, Glasgow 26 Oct.  West Lothian's boys did us proud. Competition results were absolutley phenomenal! Beginners Under 10 Will Cassidy gold, Beginners Under 12, Callum Somers Gold, Craig Paterson Silver, NDP in Age Primary 4, Kazacham Dangata gold, NDP out of age Primary 4, Alex Cowan Gold, Elite Under11 Connor Rajek Silver, Under 14 Grant Millar Silver, James Griffin Bronze, Under 16 Paul Fowler Silver.

  • Fantastic Debut for our Women's Team at the Bill Slater Team competition in Newcastle. Very early on Saturday morning, 25 October an excited but slightly nervous group of gymnasts met to travel down to Newcastle for their first experience of representing their club in a team competition outside Scotland. They had all put in the hard work towards preparing for this event and were bent on doing their very best for their team - no individual awards here - Starting on beam Pauline and Ruth watched those selected perform. It was an excellent start with some very nice performances a few unfortunate falls though, kept us on our toes. Moving to floor and vault the whole team went clean and every team member gave their all. Last piece was Bars and although the girls showed some great lines we again saw a few falls that were quite uncharacteristic. We then waited with baited breath for the results and were delighted that we were the top team in the first round. We had to wait until Sunday for the final results when we eventually discovered that we were placed 8th out of 19 teams. This was an amazing achievement for an extremely young team. I am so proud of every single member of our team. Lauren Graham, Hayley Park,Jaclyn Duff, Jade MacKinnon, Aimee Bryce and Shannon Archer.
  • October
  • £450 Grant awarded by West Lothian Council. We are delighted that West Lothian Council have awarded our club a development grant of £450 towards the costs of inviting one of Britain's top choreographers to visit the club on six occaisions throughout 2009. Daniela Nanova has worked with many of Britain's top gymnasts and is currently Scotland's National Choreographer.

  • Permit Awarded to host Floor and Vault Open Comp!  Scottish Gymnastics, our National Governing Body have granted a permit which allows us to host an Open Floor and Vault competition at West Lothian College on 1st March 2009. This will be a great event offering our gymnasts a much needed opportunity to compete and also helps once again with the never ending battle of fundraising.
